Fish distributors are looking for alternatives to foam plastic coolers because they need to be constantly replaced every three months. In addition, the soft construction of foam plastic coolers limit their stacking height during transport and storage. More durable and stackable hard plastic coolers are available in the market. However, they are more than 7x the price.
Fortuna manufactures affordable coolers that have the durability and stacking properties of hard plastic coolers, but are up to 40 per cent cheaper. What makes Fortuna’s coolers unique is they are made from coconut husk waste, which go through a unique process that makes them sturdy and maintain high insulation capability.
ADB Ventures SEED grant supports the scale‑up of sales and manufacturing, including new supply of coconut husks from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The funds also supported the development of its consumer product line.
